Do you know that the law is changing in relation to penalties imposed on drivers who are not displaying a valid NCT disc on their vehicle?

From December 8th, cars without an NCT Certificate will be dealt with by the Gardaí on the roadside and drivers will receive 3 penalty points and a fine.

As the vast majority of cars are registered in the first few months of the year, the majority of NCTs are also carried out in the first few months of the year, leading to long waiting lists at times.  In 2014, 51% of all testing was done in the first 3 months of the year.  This cannot be used as an excuse.  The onus is on the driver to book in the car well in advance and to ensure that the NCT is in place.

Your car can be tested 90 days in advance of its NCT date without affecting the expiry date of the certificate.  So, if it’s due early next year, get it booked in now to avoid a long wait and the threat of penalty points and a fine.

Remember, National Car Testing was introduced to make our roads safer – let’s all do our bit.
